BE A SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE DRIVER
It’s a special time in everyone’s life when receiving a driver’s license and the privilege to drive. It is important to remember with that privilege comes the responsibility to follow the traffic laws that are written to protect our community and everyone on the road.
- Keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
- Safely share the road with other motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
- Never become distracted while driving (e.g., never text while driving).
- Wear your seal belt at all times.
ENGAGE STUDENTS IN SAFE DECISION-MAKING: Fatal Vision Goggles
What’s the Purpose?

What’s the Objective?
The Fatal Vision Goggles are used with various activities to highlight impairment from marijuana or alcohol use and its negative impact on driving. After using the goggles, participants will:
- List observed driving errors.
- Describe the effects of marijuana/alcohol on driving skills.

FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Parents play an important role in helping their teens learn to drive safely. In fact, according to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Center for Injury Research and Prevention, parents can reduce their teen’s crash risk by as much as 50 percent when they set rules, offer support, and monitor their teen's driving. Below are some tools and resources that can be helpful in this journey.
NEW DRIVERS
The first few years are important in building a solid foundation of safe driving habits. You should be making smart decision to not engage in risk behavior such as impaired or distracted driving. Alcohol is a substance that reduces the function of the brain, impairs thinking, reasoning and muscle coordination. All of these abilities are essential to operating a vehicle safely. Just one drink before driving can put you and others on the road in danger.
