We are excited to announce the winners of our 2020 Alcohol Awareness PSA contest “I Can Be Anything I Want to Be … Alcohol-Free!”, where 10 Sussex County schools had winning entries! With over 150 submissions, these entries truly stood out.
Tackling Opioids Through Prevention for Athletes (TOP) Toolkit is intended to help guide and raise awareness of opioid use and abuse among young student athletes and to provide evidence-based recommendations and information that will encourage and promote policy and practice changes that will strengthen schools, athletic departments and community based athletic programs.
The 2020 Champion Awards will honor five outstanding community individuals who have dedicated their time and effort to our mission. Please join us to recognize our “champions.” We are grateful for their dedication and we want to share the special contributions they’ve made to advocate for our agency and reinforce the work we do in Sussex County.

“I Can Be Anything I Want to Be … Alcohol Free.” Youth receive mixed messages about drinking alcohol from movies, television, magazines, music, their peers and other sources. Because of this, many do not understand how dangerous underage use of alcohol can be. You are smart, you know better!

Since 2006, the Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities, a program of the Center for Prevention and Counseling, in collaboration with participating Sussex County School districts, has conducted a biannual survey of studies in grades 6th-12th on their attitudes and behaviors regarding alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
