Nationwide DEA Sponsored Prescription Drug Disposal Day: Saturday, October 28, 2017
Be Part of the Solution to Drug Misuse in Sussex County!
One out of 6 teens report using a prescription drug to get high or change their mood. Unused drugs that remain in medicine cabinets and homes are highly susceptible to theft and misuse while opiate prescription pain relievers can lead to heroin addiction. The Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities in Newton in partnership with Sussex County Law Enforcement and the Drug Enforcement Administration is promoting a nationwide effort on Saturday October 28, 2017 as a day to be part of the solution to reduce the misuse of prescription drugs and address the addiction epidemic. This Fall, be part of the bi-annual DEA sponsored Rx Disposal Day on Saturday, October 28th by safely and securely disposing of unwanted medicines at ten different locations in Sussex County.
Saturday, October 28th is also an initiative to promote the use of Sussex County’s permanent prescription drug disposal sites including Andover, Augusta, Byram, Hardyston, Hopatcong, Newton, Sparta and Vernon. In addition, two temporary locations will also be available for October 28 at the Byram Shop Rite and Byram CVS. Take part in this important event by cleaning out your medicine cabinets and disposing of any unused, unwanted, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medication at any one of the ten sites. Share this information with your family, friends, and colleagues and be a part of the solution to creating a healthy, drug-free Sussex County!
Make a difference in our community and safeguard your medications, dispose of unused drugs, educate yourself at www.centerforprevention.org, share what you know with others and get help if you think your child or loved one has a problem. The following police departments in Sussex County have permanent Rx disposal boxes available 24 / 7 – 365 Days a Year: Andover Police Department, Augusta, NJ State Police Sussex Barracks, Byram Police Department, Hardyston Police Department, Hopatcong Police Department, Newton Police Department, Sparta Police Department, Vernon Police Department.
