BACKGROUND

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held annually on August 31st to raise awareness, reduce the stigma of a drug-related death, and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose. Every year since 2001, thousands of people worldwide stand alongside the friends and families of fatal overdose victims to reflect on those who we have lost and spread the message that overdose death is preventable. This important day emphasizes that no one ever need feel shame or disgrace over a drug overdose and that recovery resources can save lives.

In honor of International Overdose Awareness Day, the Sussex County Recovery Community Center proudly presents the Expressions of Recovery Pop-Up Exhibit. This special event aims to weave a collective message of hope, recovery, and spirit through the diverse artwork and talents of individuals from Sussex County, NJ. Following the event, please join us on the Newton Green for a ceremony and candlelight vigil in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

The Expressions of Recovery Pop-Up Exhibit showcases artwork that portrays the challenges and struggles associated with addiction and the extraordinary resiliency and triumphs of recovery. This event invites all art mediums, providing a platform for artists to express their journeys and experiences through creative expression.

Attending the Expressions of Recovery Pop-Up Exhibit provides an opportunity to:
• Gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in recovery.
• Celebrate the successes and resiliency of those who have overcome addiction.
• Support local artists and the recovery community.
• Participate in a meaningful event that honors International Overdose Awareness Day.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

 

Artists interested in contributing to the exhibit can submit their artwork for consideration.

All mediums are welcome. Submission Deadline is August 17.

Art drop-off days are Monday, August 26, and Tuesday, August 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
