Free Responsible Beverage Service Training for Servers to Promote Alcohol Safety

Tips training March 2016

The Center for Prevention and Counseling will be offering a free TIPS Responsible Beverage Server training on Monday, April 18, 2016, from 9:30 – 2:30 pm at the Louise Childs Branch of the Sussex County Library at 21 Stanhope-Sparta Road in Stanhope, NJ 07874. This free training will teach servers how to prevent drunk driving, underage drinking and alcohol abuse. Everyone who serves alcohol to customers is recommended to attend, including managers, owners and staff. Recently, The Center conducted a Tips training where 42 alcohol servers representing 14 different establishments from Port Jervis, New York to Andover, NJ attended. (see photo attached)

Session participants will become certified in the TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) program and will receive a TIPS certification card, valid for three years. These TIPS trainings are recognized by over 70 insurance companies and can reduce premiums for owners of establishments where servers are certified. TIPS trainings enhance the people skills of the servers, sellers and consumers of alcohol. Program participants are trained by certified instructors to detect the signs of intoxication and gain the confidence needed to intervene effectively to prevent alcohol related problems. Participants also learn to identify underage people and people who are already intoxicated. This certification course is made possible through the Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities in Sussex County. Registration is required and limited; please contact Tina Aue at 973-383-4787 ext. 239 or email [email protected] to reserve a spot or for more information.
