To support people and families affected by addiction during a time of year that can prove challenging for many, we hosted our first ever “Gift of Recovery” event on Saturday, December 3rd. The 6-hour program kicked off with lunch sponsored by NCADD-NJ and catered by Dominicks of Newton. Over 50 community members enjoyed eating, socializing and the various workshops provided. Director of Clinical Services, Rachel Wallace, led an interactive discussion on strategies to reduce stressors during the holidays in order to enjoy all that the season has to offer while maintaining recovery. Other presenters included Tonia Ahern of NCADD-NJ who spoke about how to get involved in the recovery advocacy movement, Ken Dunham, a Self-Management and Recovery Training meeting facilitator, and attorney Devin Kennedy who explained the rights of individuals with criminal records when applying for jobs. The night was concluded with a showing of the documentary film, “The Anonymous People.” The success of this day could not have been possible without the help of volunteers and resources donated.
