Prevention Hub

For youth and families to thrive in a safe and healthy environment, communities must address the numerous risk factors that lead to the early use of alcohol and other drugs, often the first step on a path to addiction. The Sussex County Prevention Hub is an initiative of the Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities, a program of the Center for Prevention and Counseling. Our goals are to support the members of our community by providing a direct link to evidence-based support services, educational programs, and resources for all sectors.

NEW JERSEY CHILD ASSAULT PREVENTION (NJ CAP)

New Jersey Child Assault Prevention (NJ CAP) is a statewide community-based prevention program. With a motto “All Children Deserve to be Safe, Strong and Free” ®, the CAP program seeks to reduce children’s vulnerability to abuse, neglect and bullying by providing comprehensive prevention workshops for children, parent, and school staff.

PreVenture

PreVenture is a 4-week evidence-based prevention program that uses four different personality interventions. The program’s goals are to promote mental health, increase skill development and delay substance use among youth. At its core, the program aims to provide youth with cognitive behavioral skills to help them cope with the multiple challenges many teens face, such as academic stress, peer pressure, and interpersonal conflict. In addition, the program identifies at-risk youth through a universal screening tool.

WYAD Winners 2021

This is the 21st Annual “What’s Your Anti-Drug” (WYAD) supplement that the New Jersey Herald and the Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities, a program of the Center for Prevention and Counseling, have collaborated on. This year over 700 Sussex County students from 28 different schools, in grades K-12th submitted an entry to the Annual WYAD Contest or submitted an entry to “What Makes You Happy?” contest.

Summit 2021

We are celebrating our 21st annual Taking Flight to Change Middle School Summit and the theme is Together We Can Make A Difference. Middle schools in Sussex County (nearly 5000 kids!) will be participating by viewing powerful videos tailored to our students, taking part in daily Kindness Challenges and listening to empowering speakers. We are confident this week’s events will energize and motivate students just as it has in the past 20 years!
